Stena Line is the sole ferry operator at the Port of Dun Laoghaire. This established ferry company operates a year-round return service from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead in North Wales.

Stena Line offers at least two daily sailings throughout the year and a higher frequency of sailings in the summer months and on weekends aboard the highly efficient Stena Line HSS Explorer. Ferries run twice daily from Monday to Thursday and thrice daily from Friday to Monday, between January and September. From September to January, ferries run twice daily. The Stena HSS Explorer takes 1 hour, 40 minutes to complete the crossing in either direction.

Facilities and specifications of the Stena HSS Explorer are impressive, with a passsenger and car-carrying capacity of over 1,000 people and 300 vehicles respectively as well as offering quality entertainment areas including restaurants, bars, a cinema and children's play areas. The catamaran is capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 knots, with four powerful gas turbine driven water jets.
